Take a cruise on the Ft. Dearborn vessel to learn the history on how Chicago became noted as the birthplace of the skyscraper. Critics say that
no other city has influenced and embodied state-of-the-art high rises and modern architecture as prominently as Chicago.
Virtually every major architect has a signature building here.
Learn how famous architects used the Great Chicago Fire as a steppingstone to begin their vision. Discover how a merchant by the name of Montgomery Ward waged a 25-year legal crusade to prevent Chicago barons from turning Grant Park into an industrial factory zone.
Tour guide and NIU alumna Debra Lee will lead the cruise as you enjoy a variety of hors d'oeuvres and wine, beer and soda - all complimentary. The menu includes caprese salad skewers, melon skewers with honey-lime glaze, smoked turkey sandwiches on a brioche bun with mango chutney, teriyaki-marinated beef, tavern ham on an orange biscuit with grainy mustard sauce and roast beef on a mini pretzel round with horseradish sauce.
